Kimura General Store

Tsukomo and Ume Hironaka, founded T. Hironaka Store, a sugar plantation store, in 1921. The store opened on October 18 1921 and ran until 1960.   

It was the traditional mom and pop store as we would label it today. Back then it was the neighborhood grocery store, the hub of the community, providing goods and services for everyday life: grocery items (American and Japanese), produce, non-foods (fabric, jewelry, kerosene, small Japanese furniture), animal feed (I remember chicken feed) Japanese medicinal products and liquor. 

The Morigaki family operated the location from 1960-1988.

May 26, 1989 Pinky’s 5 Eight was born. Colleen Aina granddaughter of Tsukomo and Ume opened  Pinky's which was a landmark in the Papaikou community for 25 years. 

From  manapua, red hot dogs in sweet bread buns, pork hash, collectable cards, to Fireworks Pinky's  Pinky’s was something special to every different age group in the community for 25 years! 

 December 31, 2014 after 25 years of fun-filled service to the community Colleen retired from the retail store business and Pinky's was closed. 

June 2021 Colleen and family sold the Pinky's property. Kimura General Store began with a vision and officially opened in August 2022. 

We are honored to serve our community and proud to continue the tradition of being a small  locally owned and operated family "mom and pop" home grown business! Cold drinks, snacks, hot foods fishing supplies, and more KGS is here for you!
